The Data Protection Officer, more commonly referred to as the DPO, ensures good IT practices within the company. His missions are multiple:
He or she is involved in carrying out audits and controls to ensure that the actions taken comply with the law. It thus monitors the legal compliance of all projects.
The DPO also raises awareness of the GSPD applicable in Europe. He also acts as an advisor and coordinator for all matters relating to data protection. For example, he may be required to train his staff on how to avoid risks.
As a security manager, he or she alerts the company director as soon as he or she notices any irregularities concerning data protection. The DPO is therefore the trusted third party that no manager can do without today.
This job requires, of course, to be up to date with the regulations in force. This highly qualified manager knows the techniques and methods to be in full compliance with the law. He also masters the principles of privacy law and confidentiality legislation. He or she is also the privileged delegate for cyber law, both in terms of data transfers and the development of prevention systems.
Such a specialist therefore has an impressive legal culture, acquired after studying mathematics, computer science, and law. As a pedagogue par excellence, he or she must also have great communication skills and a sharp sense of persuasion. Indeed, it should not be forgotten: it is above all a conductor, in relation to all professional branches within a society.
